Before your tan
A little prep makes a big difference to how even your tan looks and how long it lasts.
The day before
- Exfoliate all over, paying extra attention to elbows, knees, ankles and hands.
- Shave or wax at least 24 hours before your appointment, so your pores have time to settle.
On the day
- Shower before your appointment, but skip moisturiser, deodorant, perfume and make-up.
- Shower no less than 1 hour before to allow time for your skin to dry and pores to close.
- Wear or bring loose, dark clothes for afterwards, like a dressing gown, a baggy T-shirt and loose bottoms, plus flip-flops if you can.
- Check the weather! Your tan mustn't get wet until your first rinse, so make preparations incase you have to go outside.
After your tan
Until your first rinse
- Keep your tan dry: no showers, swimming, exercise or anything that makes you sweat.
- Stick to loose, dark clothes and avoid tight straps or waistbands.
- Rinse after 8 hours or as I advise on the day if having an express tan. Use lukewarm water only, with no soap or shower gel, and pat dry gently.
Making it last
- Moisturise every day from the day after your first rinse.
- Avoid long hot baths, saunas, swimming pools and hair removal creams.
- Your tan should last around 7 - 10 days if all the preparation and aftercare is followed.
